Research: Weather

I took note of the weather for our filming process to see what days were going to be compatible for when we were planning on shooting indoors and outdoors.

This was the weather for the 1st November, we have decided to film at Blitz since the weather wasnt too great.

Planning : 'The perfect hair'

The night before filming i've packed , organised and finished adding any extra things i might need for tomorrow however i also wanted to focus on getting my image ready.  I've put my hair in a bun which will stay like this for the whole night so that when i wake up in the morning my hair will be nice and wavy at the ends . I noticed with Kate Nash her hair has an effortless quality almost as if she didn't spend time on it when we all know she has. To achieve this with my hair i believe putting it in a bun will give it hopefully the same outcome as Kate's hair or something near it . In my pitch i told my teacher "We don't want to copy everything about Kate Nash , we're taking inspiration from her and using it to create a new artist, Freda May".

Planning : Checking over blog

The combination of these three photos show me looking over my groups blog , the reason i'm doing this is to check that i haven't forgotten any important blog posts and to see if there are any mistakes i need to rectify.  Daily check ups on the blog is a good way to improve and produce solid work, after publishing a post i sometimes notice mistakes, if i hadn't of looked twice i wouldn't have seen it. Being independent is a great quality , i could have easily waited for my teacher to check my blog and point mistakes out but i believe that being lazy get's you nowhere therefor i take time to check and notice things myself .

Planning : The day before filming

Last year when i was preparing to film the thriller opening i realised that being organised and setting things up the day before is a key way not to forget anything important on the day. In my room i had props , an outfit ready ,  a bag with other costumes and nail varnish + hair brushes to help me get my nails and hair ready for tomorrow.

Planning : Check up on Boat hire

I sent finsbury boat hire an email a few weeks ago asking for permission to film there, a few days later i recieved a call from a guy who worked there saying it was fine and that he was going to pass my email along to another person who will respond to us soon. However i didn't get an email back , therefor i've sent another email asking for permission again to film this Sunday at 12:00am . This is just to be on the safe side and to also have written proof to show the boat hire guy when we get there on Sunday to film.

 

I rubbed out my personal details on paint.

 

This company is not open during the week like it was during summer because of the change in seasons and weather which makes is more dangerous to go on a boat. They are only open on weekends at 12:00am onwards . I checked the weather and found out it was going to be raining on Saturday and Sunday , we will still go down to finsbury park on Sunday but if the weather is still bad we will book the camera for another weekend. As a group we think having me singing on a boat would be a fantastic base track to have included in our video.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Planning : Learning to play the piano

In the first few shots at the beginning of our music video we were planning on filming me play the piano to the song. As i don't know how to play merry happy on keyboard i wanted to learn so that when it came to filming i would be more confident in my skills. This in turn hopefully will make it more believable and make me seem like i know what i'm doing in the video.

Here's a video i found on Youtube teaching me how i can play 'Merry Happy on the piano , as i only have a keyboard at home i'm making sure to get in as much practise as possible before we start filming at my friends house on Sunday who has an actual piano.

As i couldn't find the plug for my keyboard i just practised getting my fingers positioned correctly .

I learnt that the right finger never moves and it's only the left finger that does , all in all i found it's pretty simple to learn the positions of the finers and which key's to use. Learning to play merry happy on the keyboard is better then arriving at my friends house and winging it for the camera. 

Planning: Victoria Park Boat Hire

Since both Finsbury Park and Regents Park hiring boats are both closed I thought I would research and find out about Victoria Park boat hire if we still wanted to use a boat in our video as it adds great Moise en scene.

I decided to compare videos and budgets that is available and to what extent it affects the song and the brand image

Planning:Kate Nash

I decided to do a short video of me speaking about Kate Nash and the mise en scene that are presented in her videos and how we can re-in force that in our video. i spoke about symbolism and use of colours.

Production : Filming Practice

We have started to practice our filming with the flip camera first , we did not let the rain stop us from our goal that day. In these various shots it will show Vanessa (leading lady) performing our chosen song, due to our song being illustration and amplification we decided it would be best if she recited the lyrics that we are going to use to match that particular scene which was

 "Sitting in restaurants

 Thought we were so grown up
 But I know now that we were not the people

 That we turned out to be"

We decided that our location 'Frae' the frozen yogurt shop would be ideal and slightly more quirky then a restaurant , the whole purpose of these locations as well as the costumes is to showcase our main characters personality for our audience.

The location that surrounds our leading lady has very neutral colours which we believe is a great backdrop to have Vanessa step out in a floral top and hot pink bag that seems to just pop/stand out. In Frae there is a medium photo of a girl , it looks very retro and adds to our artists style. You also notice a pop of green within the shop , we think bold colours make a statement and that will attract our audience and interest them. Included in the third shot is a black store called 'Annies'  which sells vintage clothing , this is written on it's name board. When we do our actual filming next thursday we're planning to set the camera in an angle that shows this store as well as Vanessa.

Research : Shopping

As a group we were going to go shopping today but due to a few of the girls having tutorial this day was made slighlty impossible . Instead of going home on my day off  i still went out and looked for outfits and this is what i came across and bought.

I chose this because of the bold floral print , i took inspiration from Kate Nash's style and incorporated it within my outfit .However the skirt i thought added a touch of 'Unique-ness' , i don't really see many people wondering the streets of london wearing a skirt like this and when worn i believe both the top and skirt combination will make me stand out among the crowd of city people or tourists who's clothes are pretty distinctive . The outfit stands out like i believe my groups specific audeince likes to.

Furthermore as i was walking around the store i went to the  accessories section to see if i could find a necklace to bring the outfit together or give the lyrics/music any significance . I came across this yin  yang necklace which i believe could be used to symbolise her broken relationship and how they weren't each others ying and yang and didn't complete eachother.

Like i said in my previous posts , the small details is something our specific audience who likes to stand out from the crowd will take note in . I also think our wider audience the people who don't really wanna stand will pick up on and be interested in .

Research:Change in the music industry

On Sunday night i was watching MTV base which is famously known for its music videos, Justin bieber who is know a sensation to teenage girls, song baby then Michael Jackson thriller came on. I decided to do some research on both songs, and speak about how the music industry has changed. No comparison are usually drawn between the two, however there is comparisons they can both be seen as pop legends.

This is a screen grab on Michael Jackson-Thriller and Justin bieber-Baby i chose to use both of thee songs because both artist are known for these songs, Michael Jackson thriller has been said to be the first real video that was created and was originally 13 minutes, which is one of the longest video's to date.                                                                    

       This is Michael Jackson famous thriller video first released in 1982 however only came on yotube in 2009, and has received 121,187,920 which is way less than what justin bieber has recieved. 

Justin Bieber-Baby which was published 2 years ago. and has received an outstanding 791.573,756 this is more than triple of what Michael Jackson famous thriller video received this shows how the music industry has changed. Teenagers have now become a main target audience, Justin bieber popularity is majorly down to teenage girls.

Research : Shopping for accessories

Me and zee,Sumi decided to look around islington for shops that could have items or accessories that we might consider using for our music video. At first we went to Camden passage market but unfortunately   like Chapel market it wasn't up and running. However we did find these three shops .

We thought this tea pot which looks oriental would go with the chinese umbrella I (Vanessa) bought

for the boat locatioin in Finsbury park.

Our artist we picture to have a vintage inspired style as well as being girly with her choices of accessories or  outfits. 

We wrote a small list of clothes or accessories that we are considering purchasing and what shop we found them . this was to help us to be organised.

We would like our character’s personality to be like actress Zooey Deschanel, I noticed her quirkiness while watching her play the character Jess Day in New Girl.

Research : Final bit of research

This is a character from a tv show called 'New Girl' , her personality , style , job occupation all equals  a very quirky , enthusiastic woman . Her character is a primary school teacher who loves to be creative in her teaching methods , even though this isn't a music video, i believe i can take style tips and inspiration from this tv show and input into my style .

Celebrities use social networks to promote themselves and music, Facebook used to be a prime network in which celebrites will use to promote them self however facebook is now becoming outdated even though it is the leading social network. Twitter  was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million active users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. Twitter is now in fashion and celebrities evolve around current trends and fashion.

I created a twitter account for our artist, i decided to do this because as stated before twitter is a useful source for communicating with your audience

This is the layout for her twitter, as you can see her dp is a "I love vintage" This reinforces her love for vintage. 

This is her bio, this re-inforces how we would like our music video would be , when asked to define our music video in one sentence we including quirky and vintage this was to show how we would like to en-force vintage in our music video, Vintage is currently in fashion especially in the Uk so we would like to be current when creating our music video.

This is the list of who she is following as you can see she has a variety of vintage accounts that she is following, this shows her dedication and love for vintage also there is a few celebrities that she is following, such as Katy perry, Kate perry songs usually fall under pop.

 This is a screengrab of ne-yo and gary barlow using their twitter to promote there music , Gary Barlow has recently decided to do solo and he is having his own show in a few weeks so this shows him telling his audience were they can purchase tickets for his show.

Ne-Yo  is teling his audience were they can see him perform this will increase his brand image and his songs.

Since our pitch we added the audio track to the animatic, we plan to add a variety of shots to our storyboard and make a new animatic displaying our progress from now until then.

In this ANIMATIC we have tried to include many close ups, just as Kate Nash and other indie pop artists use in their music videos.

When using my brothers iphone an idea struck me. My brother currently has an iphone 4s and in this there is 2 cameras a front one and a back one.

• Alexandra palace

We decided to film at Alexandra palace because it is a perfect spot for us to catch the sunset the reason we chose this location is  because in the song it says "I can be alone, yeah, I can watch the sunset on my own ,I can be alone, yeah, I can watch the sunset on my own I can be alone, I can watch the sunset on my own" 

• Finsbury Park boat hire

In Kate Nash merry Happy she is speaking about a past relationship and how she is going to live her life care free, we decided to use finsbury park boat hire to re-in force this idea, we want to portray our leading lady as a quirky and retro character not your usual young adult who would rather go parties instead of boat rides. In our music video we are trying to re-in force her personality, that's why we chose finsbury park boat hire, boat rides are usually for calm and relaxed people and that's what we are trying to portray.

• Zee's house

We've decided that we will do a scene at Zee's house, in this picture we have taken a sceenshot of her house, the scenes in Zee's house will be for the lyrics "

• Friend with piano's home - We will film at Vanessa's friends house because she has a piano, and at the start of the song you can hear a piano, this scene will show her playing the piano while lip syncing

Landmarks .Trafalgar square ,big Ben & London eye

The use of famous landmarks will show her journey on enjoying life care free, in our music video we will have jump cuts and split screens of her at these locations enjoying herself,.

Blitz boutique  when searching for boutiques to use, after being let down by Vivian Holloway we came across blitz situated in east London, this boutique is exactly what we are looking for it sells a range of products which could be included in our music video these includes bikes, a shot can be of her pretending to ride the bikes, and they have changing rooms this fit perfectly with us wanting to create a scene which will show her trying on various outfits.

Cafe in Camden passgage , after first being rejected by Hummingting bird we came across this yogurt parlour on our visit to camden passage, we decided this would be useful for our music video, it is not to far from our college and includes what we are trying to incoperate in our video, i wrote an email to them asking for permission and as previously seen in one of our blogs they approved!.

In one of my post's my group and I did a Facebook profile for our artist (Me)

However when preparing for our pitch we came together as a group and decided that Jess may didnt stand out as a name for  me . We changed it to 'Frieda May' , i personally prefer this  choice as Frieda isn't a very common name and is surely enough to make me stand out among other artists. Therefor i've decided to make her a new profile ...

If you look closely at my hobbies you'll realise that they are all creative things to do , i chose them on purpose mainly because our specific audience are creative people themselves. To inspire as an artist i need to lead my fans , the workshop part shows that i care about my fans enough to want to spend time with them.

Ways in which i can show that i'm creative in the music video is by really thinking about camera , mise en scene and editing .  My flip camera idea is what i'm counting on to show creativity as well as the outfits i wear and the locations i go to.

After we pitched our media teacher Dan told us that he thought it was really detailed but he suggested when it came to filming we should try and 'Dramatise' our scenes a little more . Along with that we now have to add sound to our animatic which we will be doing in the next day or two.

Overall we as group feel confident in the knowledge we've gained through researching and planning and hope to start filming next week.

This is an updated version of our previous  schedule , we hope to keep adding more on here in the future . To us this is only a basic version of our  schedule , in these boxes there is plenty of space to add times , props/costume , performers etc etc . As a group we know that organisation is important , that is why we are pushing ourselves to want and achieve more .

As stated in previous blogs, some locations in which we wanted to film at unfortunately said no, but we did not let that stop us, so we searched for hours finding a cafe in which we could do a scene at , this is for the lyric in the song were it says "Sitting at a restaurant". We decided to visit Camden passage and while walking past we saw a cafe that was perfect for filming, this was an yogurt parlour called Frae.
