Previously mentioned we as a group have decided to meet up on the 3rd to do our photoshoot for our digipak and advertisement and i am making sure i am fully prepared, i have been think of ideas i could use, and have finally came to my final decision for my digipak however not for my advertisement. i will continue looking at advertisements for inspiration.

I have had a few ideas on how i would like my digipak and advertisement to be however i now have my final decision (Hopefully) with inspiration from rhianna digipak. In rhianna digipak she is lying on the flowers, with red being the theme colour however i have decided for my digipak it would be pink, a variety shades of pink.

 

On the day i will be purchasing flowers pink being the theme colour and i will take this along with us, similar to what i done for my digipak mock up. in this picture i made the back ground black and white and highlighted our artist frieda may to remain in colour, this is what i plan to do with the flowers.

This station stockwell station is right next to my house, and by the side of the station as you can see there is a flower stand, in which sells pink flowers so on the morning of the 3rd of january i will be puchasing these flowers.

A feedback from our teacher was that we should re-shoot due to our artist not looking girly in our mock up pictures, so we decided on the day our artist will wear a dress and to re-inforce the girly theme,i have selected a few shots that i would like to use in our photoshoot.

This is a quick clip explaining my inside panel Digipak ideas.

This is the front panel of my Digipak mock up I decided to use the colours: Black, White and Blue as my colour scheme. 

I included two clear images of the artist 'Freida May' as it was her first album. I incorporated my track list, album titles, barcodes etc. 

The common conventions of a Digipak I have yet to include the Copyright details and a few other things. I plan to make my actual Digipak more bold, colourful and quirky.

Looking back at my teachers feedback and my mock digipak I've thought about and come across the word simple quite a lot. I think the layout of my digipak should reflect the design . When I did research on different artists digipaks the people who were in the indie pop genre had digipaks that were either really out there, complex with its design and intricate or simple with neutral backgrounds but a pop of colour on the artist to make her stand out. I've decided that I'm going to go down the simple route with the addition of colour and a pleasing image to really introduce my artist clearly .

This digipak layout is simple and very basic , for my mock up for the digipak I used this four panel template but moving on from this I will continue to look into other layout that I can use . This template though is very much looking like my favourite so far as I believe it's simplicity reflects what I'm trying to go for.

Ancillary : Internet problems

Right now I am on holiday in Portugal , in my previous vlog I spoke about how I want to continue to blog throughout my holiday . However I have tried to connect to blogger using my laptop but it doesn't let me . As you can see it asks for me to verify my number but as the college set everything up I don't know how the details. Right now the only way I can blog is through my iPhone which doesn't allow me to use a variety of media . More over , I will not let this stop me from blogging ! :)

Ancillary: Digipak Work

Using Photoshop I edited my Digipak using various tools such as: 'Polygonal Lasso Tool' to edit the photos, I also used 'Gradient' to merge the images with the background better etc.

 

I used the 'Horizontal Type Tool' to add the different texts to my Digipak 'Rage Italic' etc.

Aswell as many more photoshop tools.

The do's and dont's of a digipak

After creating mock ups of my digipak and having previously looked at existing artist digipaks I have learnt the do'd and dont's of creating a good digipak.

DO'S:

• use a clear font
• use appropiate sizes for the font and images
• use appropiate industry logos
• use clear and appropiate photos
• create a good layout that follows the rule of thirds
• make sure font is in an appropiate place
• use a simple colour range

DONT'S:

• stretch images so they look pixelated
• use layer stlyes
• use a font that doesn't relate to the artist and genre
• place text across the artist's face

i have just had another idea for my digipak, i have noticed that recently i have mainly focused on my front and back page and have paid less attention to pages inside, i have recently done a post on my idea on rhianna digipak loud. I will like to have a variety in which i can choose from or try mix and match as best as possible. This ideas include 4 pictures of our artist freida may having arrows pointing in directions leading to each arrow. i got pictures of each direction and put them together to make one picture.

I decided to get some floral designs and get a template for a digipak and test out, then see the outcomes in which i have taken a liking to.

Ancillary:Colours chosen

i have chosen to use 3 colours, which is bbabypink, white and black i have decided to use these colours because they are very bold and i can just picture the turn out, i am very excited about this i plan to use flowers as a maintheme in my digipak and my advertisement, in my mock up advertisement, i used floral patters as a outline and really took a liking to it, therefore this is what i will be using in my digipak. and advertisement.

This will not be the exact colour that i will use but it is very similar to what i would like to use, the use of babypink is such a gentle and calm colour, which will re-inforce the message i am trying to convey, the use of flowers which are light and earthy

 

i would like to use the colour black because it is a bold and stern colour, however i do think that it could ruin the message that i am trying to convey, black may be abit too stern, so my alternative may be light grey or dark grey.

 Lastly the use of the colour white, white is a ceramic, calm colour which re-inforces the idea of the theme of flowers in my digipak and advertisement

i was going through digipak of previous student and artist and have come up with an idea of how i would like my digipak to be

I understand rhianna is not within our genre however i really would like to branch out, i have taken deep interest in the back pages of rhianna's digipak, the use of continous pictures have really drawn me in, when we do our photoshoot for our artist i will ensure i get a few pictures of her near flowers, however i would like my theme to be pink instead.



I understand doing this digipak will be very challenging but i am up for this challenge, i will begin to try and find locations in which we can take pictures at, this is one of my ideas for my digipak

Going to the cinema was very useful and enjoyable, it allowed me to see all the music videos and see the different genres that was used, i enjoyed all the music videos i truly believe each group put thought and hardwork into their music videos, there was a slight error when it came to our music video, the music video jammed half way through however i still recieving a huge amount of positive feedback, most students that i spoke to commended my group on our "eating cheese on toast" part in which we also enoyed creating.

After the feedback I received previously, I have gone to update my digipak and create an advert for the artist. 

The digipak: Front cover- adjusted font and layout of font, change of colour of the album name and promotional sticker added. Back cover- font made bigger, copyright added and logos added and picture changed.

The advert: Artist name font the same as album, consistent colours used, Album name big and clear, explains when album is out, shows reviews of the album, shows logos of label and websites, additional information seen and image of album cover is seen also.

After creating my second mock-up, I am able to create my final piece from this. I now need to change some of the pictures used in the digipak and possibly adjust the sizes of the font some more to create a finished piece.

I had the idea to include some flowers as a theme throughout the advert and digipak to give my artist, Freida May's album a more quirky personal touch as it has to relate to the music video and our one contained many floral patterns and bright colours.

I thought I would decorate the inside with floral shapes rather than stick another photo of vanessa.

while going through fonts , i came across one font that has really caught my attention, and i have decided that i would like to use this particular font inside each letter you can see a area of london, including bigben,london eye, generally tourist locations, and this is what was seen in our music video a range of locations..

so i finally decided to do my mock up advertisement, I've used word for this mock up for my final advertisement i will not be using word but i wanted to see how it would look, and was generally glad about the outcome, in my mock up there is a variety of contrast, I included floral patterns to re-in force the calm side of our artist however the writing is quit bold which is also re-in forcing her personality

 

 

Cinema Visit !

This is a reminder of our trip to watch the premier of everyone's music videos. It was amazing, watching everyones music videos and really seeing how much effort everyone put into filming and editing their music videos.

Afterwards, I gained some really insightful thoughts from my target audience as to what they thought of our music video.

After creating my fist mock up of my digipak, I recived some feedback on how to improve the covers and the inside panels. These are:

Cover:

1. On the back panels make the font showing bitter sweet and the track listing bigger the fill the space more
2. On the back cover add additional copyright information and more logos
3. On the front cover adjust the size of the font of the letter 'a' in frieda may
4. Possibly change the pictures on the two cover in the same poses to make it seem more professional

Inside panel:

1. Cut down the number of panels so it will fit in the CD cover of the album
2. Make the panels less cluttered by simplifying the text used
3. Adjust the colours so all text is seen

This is my shortlist of photos I have decided to include in my advert and digipak. I have choosen them because I believe they really show of my artists quirky side with her poses also using Photoshop I plan to improve them.

Here is a mock up i created at home, the idea is to show that fun, quirky side of me as the artist 'Frieda May'. I came up with the idea of using photo booth inspired shots, these  pictures were taken on my iMac and to link it to the album i'm wearing the spotty, navy blue dress i wore in the music video. These are NOT the images I will be using for the advert , it's just to give an idea of how it'll look.

In the shots above I did not wear my Yin Yang necklace as I couldn't find it , tomorrow I will go out before my lesson at 1:15 and buy a new one before the photo shoot.

I have a very short shortlist of photo's that I selected from the batch we took , the reason I picked these two images are because I thought they were the only two that presented the Indie pop genre and would appeal to our wider and specific target audience.

On Monday we are planning to take more shots in a photography studio which includes a black backdrop. After this is finished I will post my final shortlist of photo's for both digipak and advert.

For the digipak i'm going to use 4 panels , the design is going to include flowers as it's used a lot in my groups music video.  The advert is also going to include flowers so that everything links together.

This is my inside panel I haven't fully decided on what to put in the inside panels of my digipak I want to continue with the coloured themes. Maybe a few flowers, as flowers where the most iconic thing in my music video however, using objects from the music video aren't the only things for me to consider. I will also try and add a few more Freida May personal touches to it.

These are a few pictures i have short listed to use in my mock up, each picture gives out a different message this is why i chose to use these pictures.

 I really liked this picture because for one it stood out to me, the space in which she is in looks like a play button which i have quit interesting also the use of cue cards re-in forces what is seen in our music video

 This picture shows a whole different side to our artist, she looks more youthful and urban, her facial expression is comical and brings out a side that we do not expect, the use of her hand gestures makes this photo even more interesting because it looks like a canted angle however it is not.

This contrast with previous pictures, in this she is a library girl reading books however a rebellious side is shown, she is surrounded by books but she is posing in front of them which shows her personality even more.










 each picture varies from on another that is why i chose to use them, the first picture is quit girly which is seen in our music video, and the next picture shows an urban side to her and lastly the last picture shows her in the library usually associated with geeks.
