I learnt ....

1. How to create an artist and mould her into someone that would appeal to a specific target audience.
2. That there isn't just a specific target audience , theres also a wider audience who's slightly interested in an artist.
3. A new way of editing , for example : lining up basetracks and cutting.
4. That something can be over edited if not careful.
5. To recognise when a clip is finished and edited. 
6. How to work better in a group and how to overcome hurdles. 
7. Think outside the box and really push myself in terms of all aspects of research, filming and production.
8. That theres three types of music videos; disjuncture, illustration & amplification.
9. That this whole process is a learning curve and i'll only keep on improving.
10.   To use final cut pro in more depth.

Production: Rough Cut Feedback

Overall Feedback from Rough Cut 

After our rough cut was produced we asked another student and two of our teachers for feedback on how it went and thing we need to do to improve on it. Most of the feedback we had previously and the final feedback from one of our teachers we received on our last day of editing which helped us to make the final adjustments to the video. The general feelings from the rough cut feedback were:

Good:

• The use of the umbrella to show transition
• The different locations and the mise en scene shown in these locations
• The variety of shot types used in the video

Improvement points:

• The piano parts at the beginning of the song needs to cut to the beat more and use a variety of different angles at this part
• To cut more into the beginning to verses of the song to make them as strong as the rest of the song
• To change up the shots more at the 'Do, Do, Do, Da Do, Do, Do,Do,Do,Do' parts to make them more interesting
• To cut faster towards the end of the song to match the tempo

After our rough cut feedbacks we now know how to improve on the video to make it even better. What is good about rough cuts is to gain feedback from another persons point of view, who hasn't necessarily seen the makings of it yet. We feel that after we make these improvements we will be able to produce a good final product.

Here we have Susan who we asked feedback from during our rough cut , we wanted to ask her again after finishing our final edit of the music video because we believe she's able to pick up new things and notice the changes and improvements.

We all really believe that our mise en scene , camera angles , location and edits appeal to our specific target audience and also our wider target audience. The main goal was to create a quirky artist who had a playful and vintage style, this we felt would make Frieda May more likeable and seem down to earth.

We are all really happy to have finished our music video !!

On Louisa's list of things to improve , this part was written down. Just reflecting back at our rough cut we've noticed how much this section has improved. In our rough cut this part was just two basetracks, it was long and really not that interesting. Now we've added more cut's just so that our audience stays glued to the video.

Production:Changes (Cue cards)

Even though i am currently in Nigeria, my group member Vanessa always keeps me posted on changed to our music video and when i went onto the blog i saw the changed in the "do do" part in which i love after watching the feedback from all the teachers i think that this new cue cards is perfect mainly because theres more of a variety also creativeness

 As you can see this is the new cue cards that they have decided to use, which is very good because the clip itself is brighter than our previous clips also the use of contrasting colour baby pink and grey are not usually associated with each other, but my group decided to be smart and use to contrasting colours to show contrast in our music video also re-enforcing the ying yang chain

Here they decided to use lilac paper which looks very nice nice ad bold and they used a different colour pen which is bold and stands out which re-in forces our character personality/

Production: Changes

After taking on board feedback from our teachers and fellow students, we decided to re-film the cue card footage and we are very pleased with the outcome. As you can see the new cue cards have been created using colourful paper and Vanessa added sparkly and bold alphabet stickers . This sequence in the video we are quiet pleased with because we got to use 'Shot reverse shot' which Vanessa blogged about before.

What we learned as a whole is that taking onboard feedback and really spending time to improve the music video ended up being very beneficial.

Production: Feedback/ Constructive criticism

We have two media teachers , for this lesson we wanted Louisa' opinion on how she thinks it looks so far. Even though the deadline is on Friday 30th my group are all very busy on that day therefor we are trying to finish our music video today as we don't have any lessons except for media.

The feedback we got from Louisa was given to us in the morning , while talking to us she also wrote things that we must try and change on a piece of paper. After the feedback we started to make our way down the list and improve our video.

Even though Zee is away in Nigeria for personal reasons she has still been communicating with the group giving her opinions and contributing . Using Facebook our group check her messages daily so that we know where she stands and how she feel's about what we have planned. 

Even though Dan (Our media teacher) isn't to sure about the lip footage we still wanted to re-film it , before buying the lipsticks we asked Zee what she thought.  Together we came to a decision.

After watching and listening to Dan's feedback a few times i decided that it might be necessary to re film a few more basetracks in my bedroom again. However this idea occurred to me today on my day off college , using my Professional camera i asked my younger brother if he could help me film a bit. This was a bit of a risk asking someone that young and not very experienced with a camera however I figured that if i direct him well enough we could manage to get even a few seconds of valuable footage.


As my house is in Essex and very far away from college it would be a big ask to make my group come all the way here on a weekday. I'm hoping that me and my brother did enough to film a few good shots.

Yesterday we filming our new cue card movement shots , Dan our teacher suggested we do something like this to add variety and of course movement. We decided to flick the cards and had close ups and as well as a high angle of me .

We all feel as if this filming session went smoothly and today have incorporated the footage in our music video.

Prodcution-Roughcut;Further review

When I decided to sit down and full analyze my roughcut I noticed a few things that I did not notice at first, I will list some amendments that can be made and some errors. -The lighting in the first seen is very dark (the piano scene) this is due to us not turning the light on at vanessa friend house on the first part of our filming, it was towards the end, vanessa's friend volunteered to turn on the lights also by that time the battery has died. Both battery's that was taken from the college had no life in them at all
-Mouth Do Do- At times her lips were not in sync with the lyrics also the color of lipstick that was used, do not fully go with the message we are trying to put across. I think we should purchase brighter colours in which will re-enfornce our artist personality which is fun and bubbly. -A lot of good footages has been excluded, I understand its a rough cut and we have a limit to what we can include however I think even though we have many locations, all the footages that was introducing the location such as our (london eye footages showing london eye and big ben), were not included which I think as a group we will come together and reach a consensus. -The lip sync is off at certain points, however so far I think adjusting this error is the easiest, with the help of our teachers they have taught us how to match up the words so the sync would be spot on.

We've listened carefully to the feedback from our teacher and fellow media student and have made plans to address the points they made .

Dan (Media Teacher) - Dan mentions how he thinks the ending is strong but he feels like we should           add some sort of editing technique , he also feels like the mirror shots could be played with too 

----> Wednesday we plan to meet up and try out different techniques  and see which one makes the mirror footage and ending even better.

----> We need to add in more cue cards and a bit of movement , we plan to film that on wednesday too. To achieve this we're going to have Vanessa hold the cue cards and drop them.

Susan (Media student) - She thinks the beginning needs fixing

----> During thursday we will go through from the beginning and really focus on editing it and asking for Susan's opinion again.

These words best describe editing Patience because editing even a 3 minute music video takes a long time Creative because if you want your video to stand out amoung other it needs to be bold and ours needs to be Quirky as our artist is and Finally we need to be Selective as in our group we have more than 200+ clips to choose from.

In the running up in creating our rough cut, we work hard in editing our clips to have a copy of what is to come in our finished product.

Me and Sumi were so relieved to have finally and successfully finished our rough cut that we recorded a little message.

Today we all came in with a positive attitude and a ready to go frame of mind, Myself and Sumi came in first soon followed by Nasharla,then zee.


About half an hour into our editing we recorded this little video on Vanessa's phone.

Soon after thought we asked our teachers opinion and she said - " I'm starting to see a little structure but you need to really make sure it's clear from beginning to the end" 

We decided to start all over again and upload all of our basetracks for each of our verses/chorus's and then mark it all up , cut it and then add any cut away exterior shots .

                                      


Louisa suggested we organise ourselves and write about what locations we want to use for which verse and chorus . On a second sheet of paper Sumi wrote down the first lyrics for each marker that was placed on the song, this is so that when we edited we knew where to add and cut the shots.

Today myself and Sumi wanted to contribute to the music video so we took it upon ourselves to meet up at lunch today and see if theres anything we can add or do to improve the video. What i found hard was how it seemed like the time flew by in a second,  a mixture of energy , nerves and excitement was flowing and we didn't want to stop. Tomorrow is the rough cut deadline and me and my group are ready to knuckle down and get it finished.

I need to be more aware of time, throughout tomorrow I will set myself and the group goals to push us and make us finish the rough cut on time.

While searching through youtube i found this video on 'what is time management?' . Words such as checklists, planning and goal setting stood out to me .

I have tried to do most of these points from the very beginning of this music video project and i will continue to until media is finished.

Here is our teacher Dan giving us his opinion on our rough cut so far , we're taking it ALL on board and starting to improve our clips. The deadline is today and the pressure to get it all finished is getting to us but we're pulling together and pushing ourselves.

Production : Good and Bad points on first edit

On Friday 16th when my group first started to edit I decided in my head that when i got home I would get myself to record a more in-depth video of how i felt about the editing process. Due to the weather the cold i had during in the day got more serious and I was ill during the entire weekend. Now that it's Monday and my group has a deadline to meet i put aside my sickness and came in to help.

Here i've produced a few bullet points summarising how i felt friday went .

while looking through our blogs, i went back to the first piece of editing we done yesterday and i watched the clip back, and i noticed that even though in final cut pro we muted all digetic sounds that could be heard e.g Vanessa singing the song, it could still be heared over the track that we put on this is obviously a blooper and has made me more cautious for next time.

I placed them in separate labelled folders, eg. Filiming Frae is where I placed all of the filming we had done in Frae so when it came to editing we could find the footage easily eg. when it comes to the lyrics 'Sitting in restaurants'.

As stated before, today is the day that we have officially began our editing the tasks were split between us .Ehizogie and Nasharla were editing whilst Vanessa and Sumi did some blogging. We wanted everyones input on both tasks so we swapped tasks and gave each other our opinions on how things were going. We decided that we will upload what we have so far, we have placed a few markers and did a little cutting. Louisa our teacher told us we should focus on just marking ALL of our base tracks.

Vanessa : I was looking through my phone today to see if i could find any images from our filming days , i came across this quick little clip of myself , Nasharla and Sumi.

On Monday and Tuesday the college closed due to an inset day and teacher training therefor we couldn't do any group posts. We all focused on our individual blogs ...till now . Here you can see us editing in the suite , we all added our input and listened to what our teachers had to say . They gave information on marking the base tracks . We're all very excited about editing , the atmosphere is great. The deadline for the rough cut is Monday 19th and our overall final deadline is Friday 27th so we're all working hard to meet these two days.

Production: What Else?

With Vanessa's resources I made the noticeboard which will be a key prop in our Music Video. It will only show for a second but it is worth it to make everything precise.

I placed a few hearts around as the song was about heartbreak and some photos to make it a touch more personal.

Today i had only one lesson which was politics so i decided instead of going home , i should come to media and try to start some editing but on a very micro scale because i do not want to change or make any changes due to my group not being present, i decided to go through our shots which was A LOT however it will help with my contribution when we decide to officially begin our editing

 In this screen shot, i have created a new folder named "Base tracks at London eye and ally pally" this is to make it easier for us when filming so we know where to locate scenes, our base tracks is 1 of the most important element to us so to insure we have all of them i thought creating a folder would be the most appropriate option.

This is the scene in the folder so at London eye and ally pally we filmed 12 base tracks, some were full base tracks and some were part base tracks. this was mostly "I can be alone yeah i can watch the sunset"

we used London eye as merrily an extra in which we wanted to add to our music video and the use of landmarks re-in forces the message that we are try to put across which is a journey.

As stated in previous blogs, we decided as a group to add cue cards to our music video, to show creativeness and a range of products, i personally was the one who filmed the cue cards and i remember that when filming we did not do it in order. we decided to just film and then when we start our editing that's when we will arrange them in order , however that could possibly time consuming, therefore i decided i would do that today instead

As you can see it is quit jumbled up but i don't mind, i will line them in order naming them in numbers per line, i was thinking of writing out the  lyrics however this could be difficult to read and it is easier for us to arrange them since we know that per number is per line so the first would be "Watching me like you never watch no one "

I tried arranging them in numbers however i soon realised that it would not allow me to rename hem

When moving onto scene shot at Vanessa house in Essex, it came to my realisation how girly Freida-may is, till we watch our clips back we will not exactly notice the girly side, however when looking at them i instantly spotted that, i took a screen shot of what first made me come to the realisation of our "girly" look

In this shot we can see Vanessa's shirt and the telephone also abit of her room. In the shirt i never fully took notice before but it is quit a girly top, the use of the floral design , floral design are usually worn by young girls who are obsessed with pink and barbie which is indirectly is present. we could describe her as a young girl trapped inside a teenager body, this then moves onto her telephone which is also pink, this pink is described as baby pink and is usually the shade of pink, young girls like, hot pink and fuchsia are more for the older generation but baby pink and light pink are associated with young girls. also the type of telephone which is being used is quite old so this could draw up a contrast, the use of a old telephone in a modern society

Also Vanessa's nails are in PINK which continues to re0inforce the "girly" look in which we was trying to convey in our music video.

Here is youtube clip that i found , in this Dave Seger who is in charge of editing a bands music video talks about how he came about the idea of  the effect he calls 'Reverse slo mo'. He mentions how he was watching his friends photography show which she projected on to different places and he stored it in his memory not knowing when he could use this idea again.

 

I like how Dave didn't know what he was going to do with this idea at first but then later on turned it into something really great. With this projected video footage he then got someone to dress up as a love struck clown and made him perform with the projected image in the background, he slowed the juggling and reveresed the motion.

 

When filming around Central London myself , Nasharla and Sumi knew what we had to film however during the day which involved a lot of walking we found ourselves drawn to two small places within the area we were planning on filming at.We were impulsive and instinctive , we saw the merry go round and this mirror wall and just thought "This could be so cool for our video".

 

 

Our song is called 'Merry happy' and this is called a 'Merry go round' I thought it could be quiet interesting to film here because we could link it back to the song easily.

My thoughts :



 

 

As i haven 't edited anything to a certain standard in over a year i really watched closely to see how Dave achieved his reverse slow motion effect .



I hope when editing starts and i pitch this idea to my group they'll end up loving it as much as i do !

I was going through our blogger, and looked at group 18 overview, i wanted to see how well our group is doing and the statistics that have been drawed up for our group

 
As you can see our group is doing very good, looking at statistic we have recieved 50 page views today which i find very good.
As of yesterday we had 92 page views which is also very good as a group i think that we are doing good and producing promising work.

A few weeks back we was doing blogs on our target audience, and i decided to interview my friend ozzy he is currently 18 and he is slightly within our target audience.i asked him a few questions about his interest and type of music he generally listens to.

In our filming, we have tried to show Freida-may ying yang necklaces as much as possible this is to show contrast usually associated with lighting and darkening however in our music video i think the use of ying and yang is to re-inforce her personality. A group member have previously done a blog on ying and yang however my interpretation is quite different
In our music video its generally about a girl coming out of a relationship and deciding not to go through the usual path of self destruction after comign out a lengthy relationship, instead she decideds to have fun. When thinking of ying yang i think of opposite and these are some that i could think of :

 

 

To further my explanation of ying and yang chains, i decided to post a ying and yang chain on my facebook and asked my friends what they thought about when they see a ying and yang chain
