Ancillary: Digipaks and Adverts

Looking at existing digipaks and adverts

As we will be creating our own digipak and advert for our artist, looking at existing digipaks and adverts are good inspiration to know what needs to be in them.

Here are digipaks and adverts from artists similar to our genre.
Kate Nash -My best friend is you

The digipak for the album cover for this album is very creative. It uses the manipulation of images to create a colourful cover for her album. It clearly states the artist name and has the album name smaller so the attention is drawn to the name. There is appropriate extra information added and it is not too crowed.
The magazine advert is not from entirely for the album, but advertises the album all the same. It has a direct link to the album cover through the graphics used and the font used as well. It is nicely layed out, shows the information in a clear way and also shows the album cover for extra reference.

Lily Allen- Alright still

The album cover for this album is also very graphic. Given a drawn on look, using bold lines and bold colours. The artist name is clearly seen also written in this bold way and the album name, although less clear to see than the name, reinforces what the viewer is meant to identify with first.
This magazine advert advertises one of Lily Allen's song from this album 'Littlest Things'. I also has a link to the album cover. It has the same drawn effect in the background and the artist name is written in the same font as before. All information is clearly seen so the viewer can tell when the single is released.

Marina and the Diamonds- The family jewels

This digipak is very simple but very effective. The image of the artist takes up most of the space and the backing fabric blends well with the overall look. The typography used in this album cover us very bold and again draws the attention of the viewer. It fills the remainder of the space, making it a good cover.
The magazine advert for this digipak, advertises an appearance the artist makes, but still shows some similarities with the album cover. It uses the same image and the same font, making it identifiable. There is a consistant colour of the font and the text is simple, bold and easy to read.
Overall by looking at these different digiplaks, I have gathered an idea of what should be seen in a digipak and magazine advert to make it effective.
