Evaluation:Q4-What have you learned from your audience feedback?

When our music video was finished and completed, on Tuesday 16th of December 2012, our college booked the Screen on the Green cinema which is located in angel, this was so we can all see each others finished music video's, and give feedback to one another. This enables us to view each other's music video and see how their final product came out; this was beneficial to us because there were a few Kate Nash songs so it was a good way to compare our similarities and differences between one another. Our music video was number 18th which is roughly within the middle; it gave us the chance to see the audience reaction after viewing so many music videos. I have included in this blog a video of my friend's reaction to our music video, she will be speaking about her reaction to the music video from the start to the end, this video contains her personal thoughts and some improvements that she has suggested.

Adina has said some very useful and detailed feedback about our music video, her being a media student and coming from a family that has various occupation in the media industry, her opinion was very useful and valid to me because to an extent she knows the media world or has micro scale view of the media world, ). Adina spoke about the performance of our artist and how realistic it seemed , Frieda may was able to make the video seem believable which has also been said by the results of the questionnaire. Adina also spoke about the ideas behind the music video such as the jump cuts and the changing room scene in blitz also the use of the wooden letters spelling about “ doo doo “
Adina compared our artist to Katy Perry her explanations was that Katy Perry is a bold and confident character also her facial expression in her music video usually are comical and makes the audience believe what she is saying, this is what Adina said that was what Frieda may done.
Our music video was posted on Vimeo, this was for everyone to be able to see our final piece and gain some feedback. I linked our music video to my Facebook account and received feedback from there, our video on Vimeo has had 80 plays that may not seem significant however it does mean people are looking at our music video. Below is a screen shot showing feedback from Facebook

This is the feedback I received from my friends and media students on my Facebook, I am generally pleased with the feedback received because they are all positive and kind, the feedback given has been beneficial and have gave me a nice feeling all the hard work that I have went through has paid off, even though to an extent one could say the feedback is slightly bias due to me being friends with all of them however they are truthful girls and I know that they would tell me the truth about my music video.

All the people that have commented have different music preferences some are into rnb,pop and rock and for them to all come to a consensus to agree that my music video is good, that is very heart-warming, I have received a lot of “Well done” and “great job”. This has shown me that all the hard work has paid off , the people that have commented are within the target audience so to an extent this is feedback from our target audience and potential buyers if we did create a real media.

I also received feedback for my ancillary product from my friends, all the feedback are positive and seem to take a liking to my digipak. After all the hard work for my ancillary I am happy that it has paid off all them times closing the college with the staff has paid off, I can not even calculate the amount of powers I put in my digipak and advertisement. For my digipak I had so many ideas and so many layout and designs that I forgot about the real purpose of the digipak which was to represent the artist after I then retrieved my steps and finally made my ancillary link to my music video, Posting my video and ancillary on Facebook was a great idea because I have received positive feedback.

Questionnaire

I decided to do a questionnaire for the audience feedback instead of taking the usual route of just video’s I wanted to include my sociological background and create a representative questionnaire, in sociological terms questionnaires are described as reliable again, also quantitative because they can be repeated over and over again. Some disadvantages of questionnaire are that they are sometimes not valid and in this sense I mean people could lie on a questionnaire, however in this case I do not think that would not happen, everyone that completed the questionnaire was told to be completely honest, in total 14 people were asked 10 females and 4 males.

Above is the questionnaire i created for audience feedback, i decided to not just use videos which i have seen a great amount of previous students do, i did include videos however i did not make them the main source of feedback. For my questionnaire i used fairly straight forward question, each question was easy to understand , i had to ensure that the questions are easy to understand because the age range of the people completing the questionnaire started as from young as 14, all of the people who took the questionnaire said that they understood the questions fine, which i was relieved by. For the filling out of the questionnaire i done half at college and half with my friends outside college. I decided to do half, half because with media students in college there aware of our current evaluation and have more depth knowledge on music videos however i decided to do the other half outside college because i wanted to see the general public reaction.
This graph shows that there were 10 females and 4 males, i decided to ask females more because firstly they are our target audience also the performer in the song is a female so they may be able to relate to the song more and grasp the message that we are trying to put across, i decided not to do just all girls because i wanted a boys point of view of the music video, All the boys were truthful while i think the girls generally wrote what they thought i wanted to hear.

When looking at the age range i wanted a variety of ages opinion, on the 13-15 three of them were 14 and 1 was 15. One thing that i noticed was that the younger ages knew Kate Nash while the older ages didn't out of 14 people 6 knew Kate Nash this was the 13-15 and 2 16 year old  i concluded that this could be because when were younger we listen to a variety of genre's and songs because we are trying to see which genre we like the most , the more we grow up the more we move towards one or two specific music genres. none of the 18 or above 18 year old knew who Kate Nash was.
Everyone said that they liked our music video!, which i was ecstatic about i didn't know if everyone would take a liking to the video but they all did, including the boys. They all commended me for the hard work and time that we put into the music video, and all the unique scenes which to them was the cheese on toast part, the cue cards also the jump cut umbrella scene.

Thankfully no one said that they wouldn't want to see another video from Freida may, i asked this question because i was thinking if this music video was a real music video what will people think about the video and the performer, that is what made me ask the question of wanted to see another music video from Frieda may.

This question got a well rounded answer everyone had different answers for what genre they thought our music video will fit in, i found some of them quit funny such as the Rnb however only one person said that and she was quit young, i am not surprised ore people said pop instead of indie pop mainly because not alot of people even know indie pop, i have discovered indie rock is way more popular that indie pop, even though i didn't put indie rock down, everyone seemed to know more about indie rock than indie pop because i received numerous questions asking if i meant indie rock instead of indie pop.

This was very question was very important to me, lip-sync is apart of the conventions of a music video and one that we decided that we would follow, majority found our lip-sync very good which i was very happy about 7 out of 14 found it very good which is 50%, 4 out of 14 found it good which is 28% and lastly 3 out of 14 found it alright which was 21%. I am glad no one said that it needed improvement or that it was bad.

Lastly the majority found our artist performance very good which i was very happy about because on numerous occasions we as a group commended out artist on her believable and realistic acting, 10 of 14 found it very good which is 71.4% which is very high percentage, and 4 people found it good and alright which i was also happy about.

Demographic Profiling
Gender – female, the dominant gender was females which suited out target audience which was teenage girls, when looking at the questionnaire the boys went into less details than the girls, The girls took their time when answering each question and made sure they told the truth, however with the boys they were more faster when completing the questionnaire. This could be because our performer in the music video is a girl and the topic is about getting past heartbreak so I think the girls could relate to this more than the boys could or the girls were more open about their feelings than the boys were.
Race- Our music video was for all races, and this was reflected in the outcomes of the questionnaire and feedback, all races took a liking to our music video and spoke about it in depth, despite indie pop not being their usual genre they still spoke about it positively.
Age- This music video and song appealed to young females the most and were more able to relate to this song, however ages above 18+ still took a liking to this song because it could of reminded them of their younger days.

Conclusion

Overall the comments received for my music video and ancillary was very positive and nice, which makes me very happy because when first uploading the video I was slightly nervous because I did not know what the reaction for my friends will be, my usual genre is Rnb and hip hop and I think that is what everyone was expecting me to create however I decided to challenge myself and support a song that I would not usually listen to, I think all the feedback has made me more proud of my final product and made more confident in my work.
