Signing off

Maintaining a blog for me has been a challenge, but one that i am happy to have completed. This is my final blog post and i am officially signing off, but i would like to say thanks to all those who had helped me and guided me along the way and to my group members.

Goodbye

Final Progress Review blog

Final progress review

How does your A2 blog compare with your AS/
Compared to my AS blog, my A2 blog has been much more detailed and thorough. I have used more media technologies and have done more throughout the research, planning and construction stages.

How effectively does the blog show all aspects of the research, planning and production of your Advanced portfolio?
I think the blog shows all stages of the project effectively. Throughout each stage I have produced blogs on different aspects and different ideas and i think the blog shows my progress of these stages.

Where are the gaps in your blogging work?
I think the area where gaps in my work are more evident is in the anicillary process as the process was becoming more to the end, although i had tried my hardest to keep up with all stages of blogging.

How many individual blogging entries did you produce?
Overall i have produced many individual entries compared to last year, and i have also contributed in group blogs aswell.

What would you change?
If given another opportunity i would try to blog more of my ideas and use more media technologies in them.

Ancillary: Digipak Inspiration

Inspiration for my digipak

For my digipak, I have created an outside cover and inside panels to create a whole album for the artist. From creating my digipak I have mainly turned to Kate Nash's album my best friend is you for inspiration on how to design my digipak.

Kate Nash has a unique stlye. Her songs are very upbeat and girly with lots of interesting mise en scene, and her quirky, retro stlye adds to her overall image. As her songs show a clear visual link to her album my best friend is you, I thought that using her album as inspiration was fitting to my digipak also to show this link.

Kate Nash's inside pack, had a clear link from the outside to the inside. All the images used have a coloured filter on them to give it a fun look. Images are manipulated and arranged on the page in a mixed way. The text sizes vary although not too much and are tilted in different ways which gives it a graphic look.

In my created digipak, I have used two simple images on the front and back to identify the artist to the audeience. I have added a slight pink filter to the images in addition and have used the same font throughout. In the inside panels I have added a pink filter on the left image to add the the fun feeling of the digipak and lighten up the look of it. On the right hand side behind the image I have included various images of the video and other photos of the artist to show more of the artist.
By using my best friend is you as inspiration I have looked at adding filters on to the images and have also used the song lyrics of Merry Happy on the inside panel in a tilted way. This adds to the overall look and feel of the digipak to make it clear and visual.

Skills: Ancillary and music video

Skills Audit

After creating the music video and my ancillary products i feel my skills have developed. I have learnt  to anaylse and develop my ideas to  make them better.
I have learnt how use photoshop and other technologies to contribute to my products and have learnt to use feedback to help me improve my products for the better.
I like the way my ancillary products have turned out and i feel it collates with the music video.

Ancillary: Making the digpak

Making and editing digipak

During the making of the digipak, using photoshop, I have gotten to the stage of creating the inside panels of my cd digipak.
Here are some screen grabs of the editing process

Ancillary: Font Ideas

Font Ideas for digipak and advert

When producing mock ups of the digipak and magazine advert, i have played about with fonts and have come across a font that i would like to use in my final outcome.

This font is called 'raja drama'
Here is a couple of words relating to the digipak, using the raja drama font.

I like the way the font is designed and how every letter looks different from the other. I would use this font throughout my digipak and advert to keep a consistency.

Ancillary : Plan change

Today was the day that my group and I were meant to meet up HOWEVER last night while we were verifying times we found out that a few of us could not make tomorrow. This has put a spanner in the works but as a group we've overcome this and have rescheduled for Tuesday when myself, Sumi and Zee have no lessons . College opens on that day so we can take new shots around the building and then venture out to London if we still feel the need to.

Ancillary: Digipak DO's and DONT's

The do's and dont's of a digipak

After creating mock ups of my digipak and having previously looked at existing artist digipaks I have learnt the do'd and dont's of creating a good digipak.

DO'S:

  • use a clear font
  • use appropiate sizes for the font and images
  • use appropiate industry logos
  • use clear and appropiate photos
  • create a good layout that follows the rule of thirds
  • make sure font is in an appropiate place
  • use a simple colour range
DONT'S:
  • stretch images so they look pixelated
  • use layer stlyes
  • use a font that doesn't relate to the artist and genre
  • place text across the artist's face

Ancillary: New digipak and magazine advert

Updated digipak and advert

After the feedback I received previously, I have gone to update my digipak and create an advert for the artist.
The digipak: Front cover- adjusted font and layout of font, change of colour of the album name and promotional sticker added. Back cover- font made bigger, copyright added and logos added and picture changed.
The advert: Artist name font the same as album, consistent colours used, Album name big and clear, explains when album is out, shows reviews of the album, shows logos of label and websites, additional information seen and image of album cover is seen also.

After creating my second mock-up, I am able to create my final piece from this. I now need to change some of the pictures used in the digipak and possibly adjust the sizes of the font some more to create a finished piece.

Ancillary : Picture plans for digipak + Advert

Ancillary: Mock up feedback

Digipak mock up feedback

After creating my fist mock up of my digipak, I recived some feedback on how to improve the covers and the inside panels. These are:

Cover:

  1. On the back panels make the font showing bitter sweet and the track listing bigger the fill the space more
  2. On the back cover add additional copyright information and more logos
  3. On the front cover adjust the size of the font of the letter 'a' in frieda may
  4. Possibly change the pictures on the two cover in the same poses to make it seem more professional
Inside panel:

  1. Cut down the number of panels so it will fit in the CD cover of the album
  2. Make the panels less cluttered by simplifying the text used
  3. Adjust the colours so all text is seen

Ancillary: First Digipak mock up

Mock up of digipak

As part of the making of my digipak, I have created a mock up of some ideas using some of the images showing our artist. Here is the front, back covers of my digipak mock up, and my inside panels of the album.
